What is Havening and How Can It Help You?

Havening Techniques® is a psychosensory therapy developed by Drs. Ronald and Steven Ruden. It uses gentle, soothing touch (known as the Havening Touch) on the arms, hands, or face, combined with distraction techniques, to help the brain de-traumatize distressing memories and reduce stress, anxiety, phobias, and emotional pain by altering neural pathways.

The technique aims to create a sense of safety, or a “haven”, for difficult emotions by increasing calming neurotransmitters such as serotonin and GABA, helping shift the brain’s response to past stressors.

Psychosensory: Combines psychological focus with sensory input (touch)

  • Neuroscience-based: Grounded in brain function and neural pathway research
  • Gentle & Rapid: Often reported to bring relief quickly for specific issues
